The Woman King

 

The Woman King is a forthcoming American historical epic film about the Agojie, an all-female military corps that guarded the West African kingdom of Dahomey in the nineteenth century. Viola Davis plays a commander who prepares the next generation of warriors to fight their foes. The film is scheduled for release on September 16, 2022.

In the 1800s, a corps of all-female warriors guard the African kingdom of Dahomey with talents and ferocity unparalleled in history. In the face of a new threat, Gen. Nanisca prepares the next generation of soldiers to confront a foreign adversary out to destroy their way of life.
